Community Guidelines
Last updated: June 13, 2026
Our Purpose
beforethejob.app exists to help people understand a workplace, a manager, and a compensation package before they accept a job offer. Every guideline here exists to keep that information honest, useful, and safe to share anonymously.
Write About Your Own Experience
Reviews and submissions should come from your own direct experience. Don't write on behalf of someone else, post hearsay as if it happened to you, or coordinate submissions with others to inflate or deflate a rating.
Keep It Professional
Focus on workplace conduct and management style. Even strong criticism should be about what someone did in a professional capacity, not about who they are as a person outside of work.
Allowed Content
- Specific workplace behaviors and decisions
- Communication style and clarity of expectations
- Career support, mentorship, and growth opportunities (or lack thereof)
- Workload patterns and pace of work
- Quality and frequency of feedback
- Leadership and decision-making style
- Interview experience and process
- Your own offer details, including compensation you were personally offered
Not Allowed Content
- False statements of fact
- Threats of any kind
- Harassment or targeted abuse
- Doxxing or attempts to reveal someone’s identity or location
- Private addresses or phone numbers
- Medical or health information about another person
- Attacks based on race, sex, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Sexual content
- Unsupported criminal allegations
- Impersonation of another person or company
- Spam or promotional content
- A company’s confidential or trade secret information
- Content written on someone else’s behalf without their permission
Reviews of Managers
Manager reviews carry extra responsibility because they concern a named individual. See our dedicated Review Guidelines for specific rules and examples.
Company and Compensation Discussions
Company-level discussion and compensation submissions should focus on factual terms (role, level, pay components, location) rather than speculation about company strategy, unannounced layoffs, or confidential internal matters you learned through a breach of confidentiality.
Examples of Helpful Reviews
- “This manager changed priorities often, which made planning difficult.”
- “This manager gave useful feedback and supported career growth.”
- “This manager communicated expectations clearly and was available when I needed support.”
Examples of Content We May Remove
- “This person committed a crime.” (unsupported criminal allegation)
- “This person has a medical condition.” (private health information)
- “This person lives at [address].” (private personal information)
- Threats, insults, or demands framed as harassment rather than feedback
Moderation
We may remove, edit, or restrict content that violates these guidelines, and may show a structured rating or AI generated summary in place of removed written comments. See our Content Moderation Policy.
Repeat Violations
Accounts with repeated or severe violations of these guidelines may be restricted or permanently suspended, in addition to removal of the violating content.
How to Report Content
If you see content that violates these guidelines, report it through our Takedown and Dispute Policy process or contact us at legal@beforethejob.app.
