Compensation Data Disclaimer

About Compensation Data

beforethejob.app displays compensation information from two main sources: publicly available U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) wage data, and compensation details submitted anonymously by users. This page explains how that data works and its limitations.

Public DOL Wage Data

Some records on the Service come from public DOL wage filings, including Labor Condition Application (LCA) data associated with certain visa sponsorship programs. These records are labeled as public wage data. Public DOL wage data may reflect wage filings only, and may not include bonus, equity, benefits, signing bonus, relocation, perks, final negotiated compensation, or all components of total compensation.

Anonymous Offer Submissions

Other records come from offers submitted anonymously by users of the Service. These submissions are self-reported and are not independently verified for accuracy.

Verified Offer Data

Where a submission includes additional verification (such as confirmation tied to a verified account), it may be weighted differently in aggregate statistics, but "verified" does not mean independently audited or guaranteed accurate.

Estimated Total Compensation

Where the Service displays an estimated total compensation figure, it is a calculated estimate based on the components available in a given submission (such as base salary, bonus percentage, and equity value). It may not reflect the exact compensation a specific person actually received.

Base Salary Versus Total Compensation

Base salary and total compensation are shown separately where possible. Figures based on base salary alone should not be assumed to represent the full value of a compensation package.

Bonuses, Equity, and Benefits

Bonus, equity, and benefits figures depend entirely on what a submitter chose to disclose. Equity values in particular may be estimated, may reflect grant value rather than current value, and may not account for vesting schedules or changes in valuation over time.

Market Ranges

Market ranges, percentiles, and "typical" figures shown on the Service are calculated from the pool of available submissions for a given role, level, location, or company at the time of calculation, and will shift as new data is submitted.

Sample Size Limits

User submitted offer data is aggregated and displayed only when a sufficient number of similar records exist. Where sample sizes are small, figures may be less stable and more sensitive to individual outliers.

Data Confidence

Where shown, a "data confidence" indicator reflects the relative volume and consistency of underlying data, not a guarantee of accuracy. A "High" confidence label means more data is available, not that the data has been independently verified.

No Guarantee of Accuracy

We do not guarantee that any compensation figure on the Service is current, complete, or accurate for any individual situation. Compensation varies by experience, performance, negotiation, location, and many other factors not fully captured in aggregate data.

Not Financial, Tax, Legal, or Career Advice

Compensation information on the Service is provided for general informational and benchmarking purposes only. It is not financial, tax, legal, or career advice, and should not be the sole basis for any employment or financial decision. See also our Terms of Service.
